Golf – Club Shopping

I don’t even have the necessary golf license yet – but my “club collection” grows already.

Had to go downtown Stuttgart today anyway so I walked by several golf shops in the town.

Karstadt Sport
The selection is okay. Not big, but you can find at least a few different brands.
Also the collection of tees, balls etc is manageable. If you are just in the “let’s buy some new balls” mood you will get what you want.
Pro: The staff seems to know exactly what they are talking about and you can test your chosen club at the store.
Contra: No discounts possible, more or less fixed prices – except the already reduced prices; haven’t seen any good bag collection.

Sport Arena
The selection is bad. Not as bad as Sport Scheck (see below) but also not as good as Karstadt Sport.
The showroom is cold, uncozy – and looks like there’ll be some renovation soon.
The prices are good, some clubs are even cheaper than the same model which is sold at Karstadt Sport.
Looks like they have a golf shoe sale at the moment. Prices are damn low (original price: EUR 175 / now: EUR 65) but collection is bad, after all not even a dozen models you can choose from.
The golf bags & caddies are presented well.
A good place if you need balls (36 balls for around EUR 18) – only place I found where you can get single balls for EUR 0.70
Pro: at the moment cheap shoes; you can buy 1 ball if you only need 1
Contra: no sales people around while I was there

Sport Scheck
Found this store quite often in combination with golf during my Google searches. They offer also a golf membership.
Funny: They do NOT sell ANY golf articles since more than 2 years (Yes – it’s a pure sports mall / shop!).
Pro: nothing. nada. niente. nix.
Contra: no sale of golf articles. nuff said ;-)

GREAT! I love this store :-)
HUGE collection. Very good staff. That’s how I thought a good pro shop shall look like.
Not cheap, but still acceptable.
After I told the manager my “problem” he grabbed first a ruler, checked my size, checked a few clubs – and suggested me some of his “first thoughts”. And those were NOT the most expensive ones in the store.
He even checked once again the iron 7 for me… In first place he suggested a KENTON (iron 7) – after a 2nd look in the “cheap club bag” he changed his mind and offered me a PING G10 (iron 7)   for EUR 45.00 instead of EUR 120.00
Pro: great service, very good trained staff, huge collection
Contra: hard to find; bad parking situation.
