Mit Begeisterung habe ich die offizielle Pressemitteilung von SCHÜCO vernommen, in welcher verkündet wird: die SCHÜCO OPEN 2012 finden wieder statt!

Ich hatte ja das Glück, bei der 2011’er Ausgabe mir das Spektakel mit 249.999 anderen Golfbegeisterten anzusehen…

Flughafen Frankfurt erster deutscher Airport mit gratis W-LAN

Fraport optimiert das Internetangebot am Frankfurter Flughafen: Passagiere und Besucher können das Wireless Local Area Network (W-LAN) des Airports ab sofort 30 Minuten lang kostenlos nutzen.

Der neue Fraport-Service wird über das HotSpot-Portal der Telekom umgesetzt.
Nutzer sind mit wenigen Klicks online, haben Zugriff auf Ihre E-Mails und alle Informationen des Internets.

Der Flughafen Frankfurt ist der erste deutsche Airport, der W-LAN kostenlos zur Verfügung stellt.
Fraport sieht in der Einführung des kostenlosen 30-minütigen HotSpot-Angebots eine signifikante Verbesserung der Aufenthaltsqualität an Deutschlands wichtigstem Luftverkehrsdrehkreuz, die den Bedürfnissen einer zunehmend mobilen und kommunikativ vernetzten Gesellschaft gerecht wird.

Und so funktioniert der neue Service:
Nutzer starten am eigenen Gerät ihren individuellen Browser und gelangen automatisch zur Registrierungsseite, auf der ein Zugangscode angefordert werden kann.
Dieser wird per Kurznachricht auf das Handy zugestellt.
Mit dem Code kann sich der Anwender über den HotSpot der Telekom in das Internet einloggen.
Die kostenlose Nutzung des W-LAN ist einmal täglich möglich und wird nach 30 Minuten automatisch beendet.

Natürlich kann danach per Kreditkarte ein neuer Zugangscode angefordert werden.
Jede weitere Stunde im Internet kostet 4,95 Euro.

Naja, ein Anfang… aber im Vergleich mit anderen Flughäfen (z.B. Changi in Singapur) sind 30 Minuten doch etwas lächerlich – selbst bei Starbucks “in der Stadt” darf ich 2 Stunden kostenlos surfen…

Mission 36. Accomplished – but CSA sux

It’s official. It’s done. Since 21. Sep 2011 I have an official golf handicap! No more restrictions world-wide. No more “What is HCP 54?” questions. 

My “final” tournament was held at the Golfpark Goeppingen – offically a 9-hole tournament course where I had to play the full course twice.

As you can see – it wasn’t such a bad round, with a total score of 115 strokes and 42 Stableford points. Only thing which I don’t like are the zeros at hole #2 and #4… but at the end I ranked #1

Review PULA Golf Mallorca

Netter Platz.
Die sanitären Anlagen sind etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, um nicht zu sagen schlecht (z.B. ist das Herren-Pissour ohne Tür wenn man in den sanitären Bereich geht).

Der Platz an sich ist eher braun und erdig als grün und saftig (kann natürlich auch am Wetter gelegen haben - zumindest habe ich kaum Wassersprenkler "im Einsatz" gesehen).

Die Grüns waren frisch gesandet - daher ein lesen des selben unnütz, da der Ball eh machte was er wollte.
Keinerlei Kompensation o.ä. des Betreibers diesbezüglich (auf dem Platz Son Servera bekam ich zumindest einen Discount von EUR 10 wegen den gesandeten Grüns).
Loch 7 war komplett gesperrt - auch hier nur die offizielle "Erlaubnis", ein Loch zweimal zu spielen.

Das Gofl Cart / Golf Buggy ist mit GPS-Karte & elektronischer Scorecard ausgerüstet - sehr gut!
Nur das riesige Hinweisschild "Nur auf den Wegen fahren" war etwas irritierend - viele sind auch direkt auf dem Fairway gefahren (und hätten, zumindest laut Schild) entsprechend sofort den Platz verlassen müssen.
Für Cart-Fahrer fehlen eindeutig ein paar Hinweisschilder, in welcher Richtung es zum nächsten Tee geht bzw. welcher Weg der richtige ist.

Meiner Meinung nach sind die bis dato abgegebenen Bewertungen "out-of-date". Platz überbewertet - lebt (auch in Bezug auf Reputation) von seinem PGA Status.

Man kann ihn spielen, verpasst aber meiner Meinung nach nicht viel, wenn man ihn nicht spielt.
Die Landschaft entschädigt hier für einiges, auch sind die Bahnen an sich eine Herausforderung - nur das "drumherum" ist sehr verbesserungswürdig.

Review Hotel Protur Sa Coma Spa & Resort

Nach meinem 5 tägigen Urlaub in Sa Coma, Mallorca hier meine persönliche Rezension des Hotels PROTUR Sa Coma Spa & Resort, wo ich gewohnt habe…

Pro
+ Hotel in guter Lage - Strand, Shops und Bars gut zu erreichen, dennoch abends ruhig (5/5 Punkte)
+ Personal freundlich und versucht Probleme zu lösen (4/5 Punkte)
+ Buffet hat durchaus seine Highlights (4/5 Punkte)
+ Großer kostenloser Parkplatz ca. 2 Gehminuten gegenüber vom Hotel (4/5 Punkte - da nicht bewacht)
+ Late Check-in und Early Check-out bekommen auch noch was zu Essen (5/5 Punkte)

Contra
- Housekeeping ist nicht sehr aufmerksam - benutzte Wassergläser wurden auch nach 3 Tagen weder durch saubere Gläser ersetzt geschweige denn wurden die alten Gläser (im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes) bewegt. Handtücher und Mülleimer wurden erst am 2. Tag ausgetauscht / geleert (3/5 Punkte – trotz allem war es sauber)
- Sauna, Indoor-Pool und weitere Aktivitäten sind nicht, wie man den Eindruck aus der Broschüre / Hotelbeschreibung entnehmen könnte, im gleichen Gebäude sondern über das Resort über die einzelnen Hotels verteilt (3/5 Punkte – zwar war die Beschreibung etwas irreführend, jedoch alles innerhalb von gut 5 Minuten zu erreichen)
- Auf Nachfrage gibt es keine "Notfall-Hygiene-Artikel" wie Zahnbürste etc. - da kann man nur hoffen, dass der gegenüberliegende Supermarkt noch geöffnet hat (2/5 Punkte – jedes Holiday Inn mit 3 Sternen hat Zahnbürste für den Notfall)
- wer seine Golfrunde / Tee-time über das Hotel buchen möchte kann dies tun - es bringt aber kein besseres Greenfee o.ä. Das Hotel bucht zu den gleichen Konditionen wie auf der Website des jeweiligen Clubs vermerkt (3/5 Punkte – wegen fehlender Hotelgast-Vorteil)
ACHTUNG Aufgrund von falschen Informationen hatte das Hotel mir ein Greenfee beim Club Pula Golf von EUR 48 mitgeteilt - vor Ort habe ich dann aber EUR 60 zahlen müssen, so wie in der aktuellen Preisliste online angegeben. Hotel meinte daraufhin nur "Sorry, war ein Fehler - wir haben die falsche Preisspalte mitgeteilt."

Fazit
Empfehlenswert, wenn man beim Housekeeping nicht ganz genau hinschaut. Teilweise kann ich die tollen Bewertungen auf TripAdvisor nicht nachvollziehen…
Überlegung ist es wert, ob hier nochmal gebucht wird - Preis / Leistung stimmen fast.

Never Say Never

After all those dumb tv reports about Mallorca on German tv I promised myself: Never Ever will I visit Mallorca.
Whenever you see those “reports” from Palma de Mallorca about the Ballermann, the drunk men etc you know what I mean ;-)

So, the original "Summer Vacation 2011" plan was to go down to South Africa, visiting my friends Doug (in Johannesburg) and Scott (in Cape Town).

Unfortunately such trip costs at the moment around EUR 3k – so a little “change” was necessary.

After some discussion with wifey, we decided to go Mallorca for a short 5 day trip.

You won’t believe it… but I was able to do the Lufthansa online check-in for the flight Frankfurt – Singapore… yesterday’s standard message was that the check-in is not possible due to the weather conditions…

Let’s see – might be going smooth and gentle and I might even able to leave Europe within time…

Winter-Vacation-Flight-Chaos

Today’s my “day of lift-off”, again down to Singapore, for my 10 day Christmas vacation in the sun.
Well… at least that’s what’s written on my passenger receipt before Europe was hit by the low “Petra” a few days ago and the European flight schedule doesn’t exist anymore.
London Heathrow and Gatwick are closed, Frankfurt cancelled more than 400 flights on Sunday – and even the Deutsche Bahn (Germany’s train company) informed the passengers not to use the train on Sunday afternoon.

Originally the itinerary reads:
   19:10hr   flight Stuttgart – Frankfurt (ETA 20:00hr)
   22:10hr  flight Frankfurt – Singapore (ETA 16:55hr)

Due to the fact that Europe is drowning in snow & ice these days the flight Stuttgart – Frankfurt was already cancelled yesterday around 11:30hr.
So I went directly to the airport (there’s absolutely no chance to get through at the Lufthansa free call hotline) to change my domestic flight into a train ticket, which results that I have to take now the train from Stuttgart to Frankfurt at 13:27hr (ETA at my “main airport” at 14:38hr).

Meanwhile the Lufthansa iPhone app informed me in the wee hours today that the “main flight” is also delayed – ETS from Frankfurt will be now 22:44hr with ETA 17:09hr).

Now I can only hope that I’ll be able to get a seat in the train and that the way at the airport to the check-in counter will not be too crowded (can’t the people inform themself before they go to the airport?!).

At least I’m still in a better position than my co-worker Frank, who went to a weekend shorttrip back on Friday to London itself. Actually, I doubt that he was able to leave the island to be in back in the office today… not only that all airports are closed but also the Eurotunnel.

Interesting side note: none of my flight status iPhone apps (Worldmate , Kayak and TripCase) informed me within time about the flight cancellation during the morning – these 3 apps gave me this quite important information in the late afternoonn / early evening while the official Lufthansa app was something around 6 hours ahead.

Was macht man mit EUR 1,49 ?

Habe heute von Lufthansa’s Miles & More Programm heute einen Gutschein bekommen – Wahnsinnig EUR 1,49 die ich bei Musicload einlösen darf…

Hmmm… EUR 1,49 … dafür bekomme ich kein Album … keine Maxi … keine Vingle (??!!?? was zum Gayer ist ‘ne VINGLE ??!!??).

Für den Gutschein bekomme ich 1 (in Worten: EINS) Lied – und “Wechselgeld”.

Sorry Freunde – da verzichte ich dann doch gerne auf dieses grosszügige Geschenk… insbesondere, wenn man bedenkt, dass ich das nach ‘ner Art “Einarmiger Bandi” Spiel erst bekommen habe…

Der Gedanke ist – die Umsetzung schwach.

The German Golf License – Part 4.3

The year 2010 is a year of changes… Barack Obama isn’t that popular anymore, lotz of people I know will get a relationship or – even better – are having a baby and me, I "re-discovered" eBay (dammit... it's not a good idea to be tipsy while you have internet access nearby...) - and if everything’s going smooth, I’ll pass the 2nd License Test on May 9 (y’know that I haven’t succeded the first time, don’t you?).

Due to the fact that Europe was hit by a loooooong and hard winter there wasn’t really a chance to practice my swing nor game – so I hope that there’s nuff time from now on till the test to “improve to the max”.
That’s another reason why I’m happy to be down in Singapore in less than 10 days ;-) and I hope that the 18-holes I can play @ INDAH PURI GOLF RESORT down in Batam are a good training (yes… back to the roots *keke*)

At least my golf equipment looks more and more like I’m a serious golfer… not only that I have meanwhile a bunch of tees and balls (which I’m pretty sure I will loose quite fast in the rough and the water hazards) I also have a nice trolley for my bag (I can hear already cheering my back ;-) , a much better bag and, you won’t believe it, “pimped” my iPhone with several neat “golf apps” (Yes – I even PAYED for one! A corresponding [GOLF-]APPS ON MY IPHONE post will follow soon – in the meantime: feel free to ask which GOLF-APPS I have tried out…)

So... hope you keep your fingers crossed - otherwise I know who I can blame if I don't succeed ;-)

Time for a New Car

After returning yesterday from the CMT I noticed that my car is getting old…

The mileage reads already +190,000 km ,    the heater is not really willing to work as it should be, the car radio hasn’t made any noise since years (think I will never get the CD out of it again…) and the moisture inside the car when the weather is bad is driving me crazy (you know this, when the windows are fogged? that’s the main problem nowadays with my car – if the temperature difference is too high I have th<ose fogged windows… very bad…).
